Current Topics

In November we will finish our project on notorious crimes and cover the differences between torts and crimes.  In December we will start contract law.  The class will identify elements of a contract, fraud, and misrepresentation.  We will learn to recognize the types of mistakes that will allow rescission of contracts.

Class Overview

This Business Law class deals with the U.S. justice system.  The course concentrates on civil law with a small emphasis on criminal law.

Areas to be covered include:

• Criminal Law and Law of Torts
• Entering into Contracts:  capacity, legality, forms
• Consumer Law:  warranties, protection, product liability
• Acquiring a Vehicle:  financing, leasing, warranties, insurance
• Housing Law:  Lease covenants, insurance, financing
• Purchases:  borrowing money, negotiable instruments

Field trips include a trip to the Watertown Correctional Facility and a possible trip to the Jefferson County Courthouse.
