Current Topics

This month we will be discussing the laws pertaining to rental property.  Much of our focus will be on the lease agreement and the responsibilities of the landlord and tenant.

Class Overview

This Business Law class deals with the U.S. justice system.  The course concentrates on civil law with a small emphasis on criminal law.

Areas to be covered include:

• Criminal Law and Law of Torts
• Entering into Contracts:  capacity, legality, forms
• Consumer Law:  warranties, protection, product liability
• Acquiring a Vehicle:  financing, leasing, warranties, insurance
• Housing Law:  Lease covenants, insurance, financing
• Purchases:  borrowing money, negotiable instruments

Field trips include a trip to the Watertown Correctional Facility and a possible trip to the Jefferson County Courthouse.
